Speeches, luncheons, parties–this was the expected itinerary for The First Family in yesterday’s inauguration. What was usual for them would be considered eventful for most. When one hears the word inauguration, the word patriotic comes to the mind. When I think inauguration, the words ball and gown flutter gracefully into mind. Thankfully for myself and others similar to me, there were plenty of both to go around last night. The second Mrs. Obama waltzed onto the inaugural stage yesterday in a Thom Browne coat and dress was only a slight preview of what was to come later. If you are as fashion obsessed as I am, then you were only waiting in agonizing anticipation to what designer The First Lady was going to showcase at the Inaugural Balls. The thought left many wondering what designer Mrs. Obama would be wearing. And then we saw her–she strutted down the stage looking stunning and confident in a red, custom made Jason Wu gown.
Mrs. Obama complemented the lovely dress with Jimmy Choo heels and a Kimberly McDonald ring. It was no surprise that The First Lady looked fabulous because that seems to be her motto, but she wasn’t the only one.
The inauguration brought almost every celebrity out of winter hibernation. Stars such as Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Eva Longoria, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson were all present for yesterday’s main inauguration events. Beyonce was a show-stopper, hands down. She donned an exquisite Emilio Pucci, beaded gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewels as she belted out the national anthem. Alicia Keys decided to also go with a red gown choosing a sparkling red, backless long-sleeved Michael Kors gown from his F/W 2012 collection.
It was nice to see all the hustle and bustle and feel the energy in our great city of Washington, D.C. yesterday. It felt like being in New York or Los Angeles with all the celebrities around, donning their beautiful couture gowns. Who do you think wore it best?
